Dr. David Lagares is a biotechnology entrepreneur, scientist, and company builder with extensive experience translating breakthrough scientific discoveries into venture-backed biotechnology companies. As a member of the Dreavent team, he brings deep expertise in evaluating scientific innovation, company creation, and the development of high-impact therapeutics.

David is the Founder and CEO of Zenon Biotech and Co-Founder of Mediar Therapeutics, both built on discoveries originating from his research at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. His work has led to the development of multiple patented technology platforms targeting fibrosis, inflammation, and cancer, supporting the creation of companies that have collectively raised more than $200 million and advanced therapeutic programs from early research into clinical development, including Phase II clinical trials.

Combining scientific leadership with entrepreneurial and operational experience, David has worked across the full company-building lifecycle, from target identification and platform development to fundraising, syndication, and strategic positioning with investors and pharmaceutical partners. His approach focuses on identifying differentiated science with strong clinical and commercial potential.

Prior to his entrepreneurial career, David was a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where his research identified novel biological mechanisms that became the scientific foundation of the companies he later founded. His work has been published in leading journals, including Nature and Science, and supported by the National Institutes of Health and industry partners.

David holds a Ph.D. in Medical Research, completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, and earned an Executive MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

As Venture Partner of the Spain-US Biotech Fund, David contributes his expertise in scientific evaluation, venture creation, and biotechnology company building to support investment selection, portfolio development, and long-term value creation across the Fund's biotechnology portfolio.
