Charles Kunsch, PhD
Dr. Charles "Chuck" Kunsch is a biotechnology executive, venture investor, and scientific leader with more than 30 years of experience spanning venture capital, business development, research and development, and drug discovery. As a member of the Dreavent team, he brings extensive expertise in identifying, evaluating, and selecting high-potential biotechnology investment opportunities. His experience across venture capital, pharmaceutical R&D, and company leadership provides a rigorous framework for assessing scientific innovation, clinical potential, and commercial value.
Chuck spent more than a decade as Managing Director at AbbVie Ventures, where he led investments in numerous biotechnology companies and served on their boards, including Prevail Therapeutics (acquired by Eli Lilly), Tidal Therapeutics (acquired by Sanofi), Disc Medicine (NASDAQ: IRON), Accent Therapeutics, Kojin Therapeutics, Quanta Therapeutics, and several others. Throughout his venture investing career, he has worked alongside leading venture capital firms, entrepreneurs, and global biopharmaceutical companies to advance breakthrough therapeutics.
Prior to AbbVie Ventures, Chuck served as Vice President of Biology at AtheroGenics, where he led multidisciplinary teams advancing therapeutic programs into clinical development across cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma. Earlier in his career at Human Genome Sciences, he managed pioneering whole-genome sequencing and analysis programs, building a strong scientific foundation that continues to inform his investment approach.
Chuck serves on the Supervisory Board of Captor Therapeutics and on the Boards of Trustees of the Pennsylvania State Research Foundation and Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives. He holds a Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology. He is the author of more than 60 scientific publications and an inventor on dozens of patents.
